Naturopathic Medicine is a system of medicine where we focus on identifying the root cause of disease, and trying to treat that with foundational lifestyle interventions like diet, exercise, supplementations, stress management, sleep optimization, and more, instead of just treating symptoms.

The medicine that most people are most familiar with, whenever they see their regular doctor, is a medicine that is based more on symptom management. For example, if you have high blood pressure, a conventional or traditional doctor will most likely tell you to take a blood pressure medication to lower it. In contrast, with naturopathic doctors, they will ask how is your sleep, how is your diet, how is your stress? And then they will try to address those before going straight into pharmaceutical interventions.

NMDs really try to treat the whole body, the whole person, by taking in a person’s history, their current lifestyle, and what contributes to their potential stressors, and try to teach them how to manage that as best as they can. We can’t get rid of stress, stress is always going to be there, but at Stark, within our medicine, we can teach people how to manage it.
